Hi JcsJr,
I'm having the same issue with port 81. Can you tell me how you opened the port on the VDP appliance?
Thanks,
Todd

The XML files in this directory:
/var/db/esximg/vibs
Have a list of files the packages contain.
Example:
/var/db/esximg/vibs # cat vmware-esx-MegaCli-8.07.07--1938763172.xml
<vib version="5.0"><type>bootbank</type><name>vmware-esx-MegaCli-8.07.07</name><version>8.07.07-01</version><vendor>LSI</vendor><summary>MegaRAID Command Line Tool for ESX Server</summary><description>MegaRAID Command Line Tool for ESX Server</description><release-date>2012-12-19T15:56:09.224245+00:00</release-date><urls><url key="General info">http://www.lsi.com</url></urls><relationships><depends/><conflicts/><replaces/><provides/><compatibleWith/></relationships><software-tags/><installdate>2015-05-19T10:05:19.933253+00:00</installdate><system-requires><maintenance-mode>false</maintenance-mode></system-requires><file-list><file>opt/lsi/MegaCLI/MegaCli</file><file>opt/lsi/MegaCLI/libstorelib.so</file></file-list><acceptance-level>partner</acceptance-level><live-install-allowed>true</live-install-allowed><live-remove-allowed>true</live-remove-allowed><cimom-restart>false</cimom-restart><stateless-ready>true</stateless-ready><overlay>false</overlay><payloads><payload name="vmware-esx-Mega" type="vgz" size="750181"><checksum checksum-type="sha-256">124e47800bbede149019547cf791f7e902702775be21c2e0211dde00d50b6d45</checksum><checksum checksum-type="sha-1" verify-process="gunzip">385b7360134241da9f1ac9b88361fd72452dcb40</checksum></payload></payloads></vib>
Then you can go to this site:
http://www.utilities-online.info/xmltojson/
And convert xml to json which is a bit easier to read when scanning for files.

This could be done with various python utilities but this is a quick and dirty way to do it one the host itself.
What did you guys do with the old forums? Are you not going to transfer that information into here? We are missing a ton of good support information from that site.
Thank you! The script is now working.
Any explanation why the same experience does not occur with other software that use NTFS-compressed files?
Olá galera,
Como eu conseguiria as seguintes informações no meu vCenter:
1. A soma total do tamanho das VMs processados que estão atualmente sendo utilizadas (não provisionados) em TB.
2. A média de tamanho para cada VM de acordo com o tamanho total e a quantidade de máquinas existentes no ambiente.
Obrigado
I used GParted, killed the original partitions, created ntfs partitions, and recreated the raid. Windows finally recognized the storage. Thank you all for your suggestions.
Oi,
Well - even Microsoft warns against using NTFS-compression for storeing database files.
I am trying to recreate our production Webserver/VM in a test environment on a separate box. The host OS on both machines is Linux (Centos 6.x), and the VM/webserver is Windows 2012 (running IIS).
I run nightly backups which backs up the VM directory on the production linux box, I then restored those files to the new test box. Afterwards I installed the same version of VMware workstation/VIX on the new box, however when I try to start the vm I get: "Error: Cannot connect to the virtual machine"
I'm wondering what might be the cause here, and/or how to go about troubleshooting? I'm just trying to figure out if VMware somehow creates files that link the VM to it's original host, or if it's being caused by something else entirely.
Ensure all required ports are opened as in User's Manual.
Also use the latest converter - currently 6.0.

What about the vmdk file that stays constant because it is nonpersistent, is it better if it is compressed or not?
Obrigado Mauro,
Essa opção eu já sabia e já havia realizado, pensei que houvesse uma maneira mais simples...
Exportei e fiz os cálculos manualmente pelo Excel.
Obrigado pela ajuda.
A vmem file is created on VM suspend and deleted on VM shutdown. When a new vmem is created, it is fragmented, making subsequent resumes and suspends slower than they have to be. You would have to manually defragment again every time it is created to get the maximum performance in subsequent suspends and resumes.
Is there a way to prevent the deletion of the vmem file on shutdown so it is always defragmented?
I am mirroring traffic from virtual machine A on a VDS. It is mirroring traffic to a physical server somewhere else across the datacenter. As always, I also have a vmkernel port used for ESXi management traffic. When I create a vDS Port mirroring session - what interface does the mirrored traffic leave ESXi on? The ESXi vmkernel management port, or just the same virtual switch port that virtual machine A is on? Do port mirroring sessions send any data on the vmkernel management port at all?
Existe utilizando o vCOPs (VRO) que é voltado para esta finalidade que você quer.
Verifique se a sua licença da direito a esse produto.
Yes, I want to virtualize ESXI the main backup server. So if I am running the Veeam backup software on a virtualized 2012 R2 operating system and point it to the virtuaized hard drive as the storage for the veeam backups then the vbk files will be stored on the vmdk hard drive which is what concerns me.
I would prefer to store the backups on a SAN or NAS device if possible.
Thanks for ht reply!
VCenter 5.5 upd 2e with SRM 5.5.1.5
Well the word has come down from the corporate security gods...it will be done. On Servers, Disable all Auth less than TLS1.1 now a combined PCI and HIPPA requirement. So I opened a ticket with VMWare to confirm a process.
As we move forward there's no doubt security requirements will rise, we have a tendency to be on the almost bleeding edge of the security knife.
What's sad is there seems to be no comprehensive guide from VMWare on critical security configuration practices at this level let alone the certificate discussion. There has to be something on the government side because the server hardening Guide\ excel spreadsheet doesn't cover current needs.
I went to TLS 1.0 on my VCenter and all looked good except it immediately broke the connections with my SRM server.
The following command can be used to confirm connection status from the bin directory of your openssl install
openssl.exe s_client -connect [VMHostFQDn]:443 -ssl3
openssl.exe s_client -connect [VMHostFQDn]:443 -tls1
Now after 3 sessions with support, SRM is SSLv3 dependent so looks like I'm getting a security exception

Unfortunately your suggestion does not work.
You can run the following line (for reference, LINE ONE) on its own
vmrun -T ws start "c:\stuff\VMs\Windows 7 x64.vmx"
You can also run the following line on its own (for reference LINE TWO)
vmrun -T ws runprograminguest "c:\Program Files (x86)\SmartBear"
However, you cannot run both commands 'start and runprograminguest' from one command line like you suggested :-
vmrun -T ws start "c:\Stuff\VMs\Windows 7 x64.vmx" runprograminguest "c\Program Files (x86)\SmartBear\TestExecute 10\Bin\TestExecute.exe"
the above is not legal syntax and results in the error message 'One of the parameters was invalid'
Sooo... my problem is still the same, I need to have a VM up and running before I can run LINE TWO
However, I never get to LINE TWO, because the script does not return after running LINE ONE
By the way, I did type vmrun into the console like you suggested. In the help examples I read the following :-
Running a program in a virtual machine with Workstation on a Windows host with Windows Guest (for reference LINE THREE) :-
vmrun -T ws -gu guestUser -gp guestPassword runProgramInGuest "c:\myVM.vmx" "c:\Program Files\myprogram.exe"
although this is valid, it requires LINE ONE to be executed first...
If I just run LINE THREE I see the following error message :-
"Error : The virtual machine is not powered on".
